The January meeting of the Maben Home and Garden Club featured Skyler Willers from Sky Blossoms Nursery of 14061 Hwy. 15, Mantee, who communicated to the ladies everything they needed to know about planting seeds and getting them to grow – a most impressive discourse.
There were several points which every gardener needs to focus: one is to water from the bottom; another is to use appropriate soil for planting seeds, another is to use the correct fertilizer, also use correct lighting, and make sure your seeds are not out of date. After they have several leaves, then they can transplant them into larger pots.
“Hardening off” your seedling is important before moving them outside into your bed. Dealing with “leggy” plants was easier to deal with than figured — just plant deeper. As you go through the steps be aware of cleanliness of your planting trays.
The business meeting followed the program in which Jane Collins called for the minutes, the treasurer’s report and any old business, of which, there was none.
The nominating committee will present a slate of officers at the next meeting and they will be voted on in April and installed in February.
