The light of God’s love, as reflected in Eupora’s Cross of Christ, became even more noticeable in recent days, as floodlights began illuminating the cross to the many nighttime travelers along the U.S. Highway 82 corridor. The lighting of the cross was one of the remaining steps to complete the cross’ footprint adjacent to Highway 82.
Awaiting completion are the parking lot and landscaping, along with installation of benches and a sign. Solar energy panels will also be added to reduce the cross’ monthly energy costs. The continued financial support of the cross’ many patrons will allow realization of a peaceful and beautiful place of prayer, rectitude and reflection at the cross’ base.
To take the cross’ ministry beyond construction and into the future, an annual Cross of Christ membership drive is underway. Funds raised through memberships are vital to provide for the cross’ monthly expenses, such as utility costs, liability insurance, security, Christian materials and members’ newsletters, as well as grounds maintenance.
Family memberships will extend from July 1 to June 30 each year for a $25 annual donation. Businesses are welcome to become members by donating $50 annually and will be visited by volunteers in coming days. Lifetime memberships are also available for a one-time donation of $1,000.
Membership donations are tax deductible and may be mailed directly to The Cross of Christ, P.O. Box 433, Eupora, MS 39744. Many local churches are accepting membership donations for The Cross of Christ, as well as Watkins, Ward & Stafford in Eupora, which is assisting in handling the cross’ financial records.
It is the intention of the Cross of Christ to establish a perpetual fund once all construction is complete and monthly operating expenses are determined. This perpetual fund will provide for the future expenses of The Cross of Christ.
Those who join as members will be included in the body of believers supporting the cross as a continual roadside memorial to the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, a memorial which will one day welcome his return and rein on this earth!
By God’s grace, much has been accomplished. As we now look to tomorrow’s Cross of Christ, we rejoice in the Father in what he will do to bless the many who will witness the cross and pause to reflect on its grounds.
