The story Friday at the Maben Public Library was “Santa’s Favorite Story.”
It tells of animals in the woods finding Santa asleep under a tree in the forest. They wonder if Christmas is coming early this year.
Santa said no, that he went for a hike to get in shape for Christmas because it is a lot of heavy lifting, and just got tired and fell asleep. He thought maybe all those heavy presents might be too much for him to deliver this year.
The animals were afraid that there wouldn’t be a Christmas anymore but Santa said Christmas didn’t have anything to do with him. He then told them the story of the first Christmas.
The first Christmas story was about shepherds in a field that saw a bright star. They followed it to a stable in the town of Bethlehem. There they saw a baby lying in a manger. They knew it was the Son of God and they knelt down and prayed.
Love was the gift God gave us and it is far better than any present. It is silly to think that Christmas is only about presents. But the animals went home with Santa and helped him get things ready for Christmas and the reindeer helped deliver presents the night before.
They had a fine Christmas dinner and Santa gave each animal a present. They sat around the fireplace and asked Santa to tell them his favorite Christmas story again. It was a very special Christmas for everyone!
We then made Nativity scenes with graham crackers, animal crackers and different candy.
