On a cold Friday at the Maben Public Library, we read "Uncle Shelby's A Giraffe and a Half" by Shel Silverstein.
This is a story that has many rhyming words. So pretend you had a giraffe and he stretched another half, you would have a giraffe and a half.
Then you have hat and rat, cute and suit, rose and nose, bee and knee, glue and shoe, toot and flute, snake and cake, skunk and trunk, dragon and wagon, spike and bike, whale and tail, and hole and mole.
After a while the children got the hang of making rhymes. Then we colored an giraffe and glued Cheerios for the spots. We also ate a few. The children then practiced using scissors by cutting with a fishing pole line that took to the fish.
This week we will read Dr. Seuss for his birthday, which was March 2.
