Maben Home and Garden Club kicked off the new 2019-20 year at the Maben Public Library on Sept. 17 with a nice turnout plus a visitor – Gloria Graves.
President Jane Collins and JoeAnn Williams served as leaders for the month. The program was a review of the yearbook, which was published by Dottie Dewberry and Faye Fulgham. Several additions and changes were made this year: the duties for leaders, a list of supporters, a change in meeting time to 11:30 a.m., a change in dues to $25 and regulations for moving the Yard of the Month.
The regular officer reports were made by Martha McMinn and Sylvia Templeton; there were no corrections and filed for audit.
Martha McMinn also delivered the devotion, which was taken from Our Daily Bread and encouraged everyone to cooperate with others.
The highlight of the year will be the trip to Bellingrath Gardens in Theodore, Ala., which is near Mobile. Rooms and a van have been reserved, and discussion of charges for such was discussed plus the charge for the tour of the garden and the mansion.
The Yard of the Month was placed in the yard of Mr. and Mrs. Donald O’Brian by Martha McMinn. Pictures and write-up for the paper will be done by the publicity chairman – Dottie Dewberry.
The Yard of the Month sign for October will be moved by Dottie Dewberry
Door prizes, which are always a high spot of the day as everyone loves to win: Joyce Hays, Martha McMinn, and Sylvia Templeton won jars of sweet pepper relish made by Jane Collins.
The meeting time has been changed for the year to 11:30 a.m. unless otherwise specified in the yearbook.
The October meeting will be Oct. 15 at the Kountry Kitchen in Eupora. Members may meet at the First Baptist Church parking area and carpool at 11 a.m. With a motion by Sandra Bishop and a second by Pat Harpole the club dismissed until October.
