The Maben High School classes of 1942 through 1970 held their 36th reunion on Oct. 5 at the Trace-Way Restaurant on Highway 82 in Mathiston.
Graduates and friends began arriving at 10 a.m. with organizer Nellie Harper Blade, Class of 1968, requesting that registration and information on name tags be completed.
Visiting and “catching up” were enjoyed in a private dining room where the school colors of royal blue (“Go Blue Devils!”) and white were used for the table decorations.
James “Jim” White, Class of 1965, welcomed everyone, and the Rev. James Bryant, Class of 1955, gave the opening prayer.
Wyman Bishop was recognized with the presentation of a plaque for being the earliest graduate in attendance — Class of 1942. Patricia Love Renton from Tulsa, Okla., traveled the greatest distance and received a plaque also.
Graduation years from 1943 up to 1970 were called with members of each class being recognized. Names were called of classmates who had passed away since last year’s reunion.
Six states were represented at the gathering: Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma, with approximately 75 present.
Attendees went through the restaurant’s buffet line or ordered from the menu at noon.
Next year’s reunion will be held on the first Saturday in October.
