The Louisville Fortnightly Club met on October 17 in the VIP room at Lake Tiak O’Khata. Everyone was warmly greeted by hostesses Mrs. Jimmy Burrage, Mrs. J.E. Calloway, and Mrs. Jerry Webb. Mrs. Burrage was dressed in Halloween and Fall attire which included black clothing accented with glittery orange pumpkins, a hat with a witch, spider, pumpkins and leaves, orange shoes/purse, and a wristlet. She passed out candy corn from her kettle.
Mrs. Stanley Hathorn, President, welcomed everyone. There were 14 members and one guest present. A delicious refreshment plate including blueberry cobber, congealed salad/ fruit, cheese straws, and mixed nuts was served. Mrs. J.E. Calloway gave a wonderful devotion that was written by Mrs. Robert Clark before a revival at First Methodist Church in 1985. The devotional was centered on Jesus who is the sweetest aroma. We a Christians should be filled with his love and spread his sweet fragrance to everyone.
Mrs. Burrage introduced Mrs. Rusty Foster (Melissa) who gave a marvelous program on floral arranging. She and her mother Dot Eaves have owned Fran’s Florist for 30 years. Melissa made several gorgeous arrangements and gave many pointers about starting with a solid foundation, making a grid to keep flowers positioned, which flowers are staples/more durable, how to cut stems, and many other tips. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the program.
Next, Mrs. Hathorn called the club into a business meeting. Member recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Club Collect. Mrs. Tommy Boydstun gave roll call and reading of the minutes. Next, Mrs. Wayne Gordon gave the Treasurer’s report. The beautiful centerpieces on each table were given as door prizes. Lastly, Mrs. Charles Thomas invited everyone to come to The Mason for our next meeting on November 21 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned.
