The Louisville Fortnightly Club met Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Winston County Library. Club President Mrs. Stanley Hathorn welcomed everyone. Mrs. Tommy Boydston gave a devotional on thankfulness. There were fifteen members and one guest present.
Mrs. Hatorn led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and the club collect. Next she introduced Mrs. Roy Dickerson who gave a wonderful and informative program on the history of our library.
Opening in 1934 by the Women's Club of Louisville, our public library was located in the community house with approximately 500-600 books. These women also packed books in their cars and brought the library to those living in the county. In 1936 approval was granted for construction of our county library.
Presently there are 8,918 card holders and access to 327,000 plus books in our library including books in the 13 libraries in our 5 county district.
Our library also offers 20 monthly magazines, 3 newspapers, fax and copy machines, computers, monthly displays, computer classes, assistance with job applications, and a genealogy room.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed hearing Mrs. Dickerson. Next, Mrs. Hathorn called the club into a business meeting. Roll call and the reading of the minutes were given. Everyone was invited to enjoy the delicious refreshments prepared by Mrs. Hathorn. The meeting was adjourned.
