The Fortnightly Club met Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Lake Tiak-O' Khata, Beautiful fresh cut flowers in pink and yellow decorated each table. Delicious strawberry parfaits and cheese straws were served and enjoyed by everyone. Hostesses were Mrs. Glenda Chandler, Mrs. Judy McLeod, and Mrs. Lex Taylor.
Mrs. Stanley Hathorn, President, welcomed everyone. Glenda Chandler gave a sweet devotional on God always being with us. Following the prayer, she introduced her husband, Judge David Chandler who gave a wonderful program on Foster Care. Judge Chandler holds a Law Degree from Ole Miss and served 15 years on the Mississippi Supreme Court. At the request of Governor Phil Bryant, he began employment with the MS Department of Child Protection Services and served for two years in this position before retiring.
Presently there are 6,000 children in Foster Care in MS. These children want a safe place to live and to be loved. Judge Chandler started the Keeping Families Close program and encouraged members to help families who have struggles to stay together. Financial help as well as encouraging school dropouts to attend GED classes are perfect ways to help.
Members appreciated hearing Judge Chandler and are thankful for all the work and assistance he has given to precious children in our state.
Following the program, Mrs. Hathorn called the club into a business meeting. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Club Collect. Next was the roll call and sixteen members were present. After the minutes were read, the treasure's report was given. Last, the lovely floral arrangements were given by the hostesses as door prizes. The meeting was adjourned.
