The yard of Mr. and Mrs. Donald O’Brian won the Maben Home and Garden Club Yard of the Month sign for September. The sign was placed by Martha McMinn.
Each month a member of the Maben Home and Garden club is assigned to judge yards in the Maben and surrounding area for curb appeal. We are looking for mown yards, pruned shrubs, local color, yard art, plant placement and overall appeal to the public.
The O’Brians’ yard is set back among oak trees that are well over 100 years old. The front of the home has well-maintained foundation shrubs, accented with a bed of fuchsia-colored periwinkle and three limelight hydrangeas, as well as other accent foundation shrubs.
The back yard has beds of cannas, Mexican petunia and other summer-blooming plants, such as azaleas, fronting a plank fence. There are wooden swings, patio furniture and shade-loving perennials. A truly lovely yard.
They are to be congratulated for displaying such a lovely yard.
Congratulations!
