The Louisville Fortnightly Club Club met May 19 at First Baptist Church. President Leah Boydstun welcomed members and guests, Mary Snow and Dot Addiikson. Boydstun presented an encouraging devotional based on Psalm 118.
Guest Speaker, Mary Snow was introduced by Leah Boydstun. Snow, an avid member and supporter of the local Red Hills Arts Association gave an update on the progress of the refurbishment of the local theater. Much progress has been made but there is still much to be done.
Snow talked about how so many local artists and supporters had given time and talents toward the ongoing project. Grants have been acquired to assist in restoring the strand theater building. Lesa Stewart and Carl Jackson have graciously given concerts as fundraisers. Winston County has many gifted artists who are involved in the Red Hills Art Association. Board members are constantly working in different areas to develop and promote interest among young people and our local community. Mary is very passionate in her love of art and the success of the Red Hills Association. She praised the organization for work already accomplished but also talked about her hopes and dreams for the future. Some of the needs are to complete the theater project and restoration of the lobby, seats for the auditorium, updating the upper floor and an elevator. It is Mary's dream to have a place for performing arts. So that local artists can use their talents and share them with the community, Winston County is fortunate to have many dedicated people promoting the arts. Snow encouraged Club members to join the Red Hills Arts Association and attend the Red Hills Festival on May 28th in Louisville. After the program, the meeting continued with the pledge and club collect, a short business session followed. Diane Garner, Chair of the Awards Committee, announced the recipients of the English Awards. Aeries Hoskins from Louisville High School and Alice Ann Haab from Winston Academy were recognized for achieving the highest average in English at their respective schools. Sylvia Clark installed the state of officers for the upcoming year. Meeting adjourned and refreshments were enjoyed. Hostesses for the meeting were Leah Boydstun, Margaret Taylor and Diane Garner.
