“Kicking Off a New Year of Reading with Fletcher Cox”
Theme: “Meeting My AR Super Bowl Reading Goal”
The first-grade students at Weir Elementary School participated in the First Quarter for Literacy Week from January 28-February 1, 2019.
All students were given five or more books to read to meet their AR goal for the week and made sure they took a test on each book they read to get the highest Super Bowl AR points. Ommie Rachel Ashford wants to thank the students, staff, and administration of Weir Elementary School for participating in the First Quarter for Literacy Week through First Book. Special thanks to Chris Long, Fletcher Cox, players of the Philadelphia Eagles, and others for donating books to the first-grade students.
The students also had to dress like a character in one of the books they read. The students were very excited to receive the books.
The staff was eager to read to the students, as well as the students were excited to read books to meet their AR Super Bowl goal. The five students with the highest AR points received special prizes. The five students who had the highest AR points were Vontavious Miller, Sami Jabari, Tayvianna Miller, Zasmin Hawthorne, and Alex Ray.
All the students received book markers, candy, and Dr. Seuss’ quotes about reading. All students are encouraged to continue reading at home and at school.
