We read a story about Groundhog Day on Friday at the Maben Public Library. Saturday was Groundhog Day and we didn’t want Phil to see his shadow.
Our story told of the people waiting anxiously to see if Phil was going to see his shadow. If it is cloudy he won’t see his shadow and spring will be here soon. If it’s sunny and he sees his shadow that means six more weeks of winter.
Phil was burrowed in his warm dark hole until someone lifted him up. Phil takes a few steps and looks around, no shadow, just lots of feet. He shouts, “Hooray! No shadow,” and hears a click and light flashing.
The light from the camera made a shadow so Phil dives back into his burrow. All these years, people thought it was the weather but Phil was really afraid of his own shadow.
We made a groundhog that popped in and out of a cup. Then we went outside to see our shadows in the warm sunshine. We hope spring will be here soon. We then played with Play-Doh and listened to music.
Friday we had Courtney, Aiden and Nathan Scerbak; Lilli Cate Anderson; Marilyn Brown; John Wyatt, Brittany and Adelyn Parker; Patricia Pilkington; Kaylyn Davis; Kinsley Dodd and Nadean Nabors.
