On May 3, 2019, four seniors decided to participate in the yearly May Day festivities where they also began as children, Winston County Head Start!! Winston County Head Start is located in the heart of Louisville, MS where they have 48 Early Head Start children and 188 Regular Head Start children. Mississippi Action for Progress (MAP) Head Start centers have been established for over 50 years and believes that every child deserves a Head Start in life, an equal opportunity to develop character, talent, mind, body, and personality, which is where Tia, Bria, Kierra, and Kygeria started. Although these four outstanding students are on their way to persevere, they decided to give back by taking out time with May Day festivities.
Winston County Head Start has held May Day activities yearly for over 30 years. These activities include wrapping the May Pole, face painting, and many indoor and outdoor games for children. Staff members, parents, and volunteers participate alongside with the children to make the experience better. Afterwards, everyone is provided with a healthy lunch. This year Tia Hunt, Bria Hunt, Kierra Ball, and Kygeria Dawkins decided to join in on the fun of painting faces!! They showed enthusiasm while the children told them what they wanted painted on their faces or hands. We had butterflies, bunny rabbits, rainbows, footballs, lions, and other things!!! These seniors showed patience, smiles, and strong craft skills to make the children happy.
On May 16, 2019 Winston County Head Start will host their graduation ceremony and majority of the regular Head Start class will transition to Kindergarten.
On May 24, 2019 Louisville High School will host their graduation ceremony and these four seniors, amongst others, will go on to further their education in the fall. Tia Hunt will attend East Central Community College to pursue a degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in physical therapy; Bria Hunt will attend East Central Community College to pursue a degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in engineering; Kierra Ball will attend Itawamba Community College to pursue a degree in pre-pharmacy; and Kygeria Dawkins will attend East MS Community College to pursue cosmetology and later obtain a degree in business.
The Winston County Head Start staff would like to express gratitude to Tia, Bria, Kierra, and Kygeria on extending their time and making a difference in the lives of children! Congratulations to both Winston County Head Start and Louisville High School Class of 2019.
