The Nurse Practitioner programs at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) have been ranked No. 25 among the nation’s most affordable programs by online resource guide NPSchools.com.
NPSchools.com provides comprehensive, ranked lists of nursing schools with online nurse practitioner (NP) programs. The ranking system assigns an “AdvanceU score” to each school. The ranking is strictly quantitative, factoring in admissions flexibility, program variety, and cost.
“We are proud to provide affordable quality education to nurse practitioner students in Mississippi. Over the past five academic years we have prepared almost 200 nurse practitioners for practice,”said Dr. LaWanda Baskin, Assistant Professor and Director, School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice. “These nurse practitioners are prepared as family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners. They are well prepared to provide needed services to citizens of our great state.”
All ranked schools offer online programs accredited by one of three major nursing accreditors: the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME).
The School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice under the College of Nursing and Health Professions at USM offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice (BSN to DNP) and Post-Master’s Certificate programs with two specializations: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Students are required to visit the Hattiesburg campus once per semester for the didactic courses. Students complete clinical preceptorships at approved facilities local to them.
The USM advanced practice registered nursing (APRN) programs prepare nurses for leadership roles in administrative, clinical, and educational settings. USM takes a scholarly research-based approach to nursing practice.
