The Choctaw County School District has been racking up honors over this past year, and the district has another one they can hang their hats on.
The Mississippi Department of Education recently released the data for the Third Grade Reading Test, otherwise known as “Reading Gate.”
The district has a whole had 87.1 percent of its students that met the requirements to pass their state test on the first try and 12.9 percent who did not and have to retake it.
But the biggest highlight comes from Weir Elementary. 92.3 percent of Weir’s third graders passed their reading test on the first try. 7.7 percent of Weir’s third graders will have to retake their test.
Weir also scored in the top 10 percent in the entire state and outscored the state. The average percentage of students statewide who passed the test is 76.3 percent, and those who did not is 23.7 percent.
Ackerman Elementary followed close behind, with 90.2 percent of its students passing the state test on their first try and 9.8 percent having to retake the test.
And rounding out the district, French Camp had 73.7 percent of its students pass their test on the first try, and 26.3 retake their test.
Later this year, the results from the third grade test will be counted in with all the state tests taken for an accountability grade.
