Choctaw County High School is set to receive a $100,000 Learning Environment grant through the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) School Uplift Program.
A celebration for the award is set for May 9 at 11 a.m. at the Choctaw County Community Center. The Choctaw County School District along with the 4-County Electric Power Association and TVA are enthusiastic to announce the plans for the $100,000 grant.
Choctaw County High School is one of 16 schools in the Tennessee Valley service area to earn the School Uplift Grant.
“We worked closely with Choctaw Schools on this project and will be celebrating with them on the 9th. $100k is a big deal,” said Jon Turner Manager, Public Relations and Marketing for 4-County.
4-County is a member-owned electric power association and part of TVA.
School Uplift is a 12-month behavior-based energy management training program developed with the State of Tennessee’s Energy Efficient School initiative that helps public schools make energy choices that officials believe will improve the classroom learning environment and save money through decreased energy use.
Sixty schools have completed the School Uplift pilot over the past two years, competing to earn grants for building upgrades and other learning environment improvements. On average, participating schools have saved more than 10% on their annual energy bills from behavior changes.
