When Winston Countians go vote on November 7, they should note that one seat on the school board is up for a vote. Two candidates from District 1 will be on the ballot to represent that portion of the county on the Louisville Municipal School District’s Board of Trustees.
Danyell Jackson Logan and Reverend Mike Dowd are the two candidates vying for the open seat.
In order to qualify to run for the school board, a person must obtain fifty signatures from people within their district. The winning candidate will serve in the position for five years.
Each year, elections are held for a seat on the LMSD Board of Trustees. Although each member serves for the allotted term, one member rotates through an election process each year. This necessitates the need for yearly elections, regardless of any city or county elections that may or may not be held at the same time.
Ms. Danyell Logan is a lifelong resident of Louisville. She currently works in retail management at Cato Fashion and has nearly three decades of experience working with people. She is a proud mom to son Brent, and they are active members of Friendship Baptist Church. Logan serves as the choir director and a youth mentor. Logan says she is running to “elevate Louisville Municipal School systems to the highest achievement levels possible in all aspects.”
Rev. Mike Dowd is a pastor at Whitehall Church, and he is involved in many community organizations, including Winston Strong and the Friends of Legion State Park. “Schools reflect our community and also provide us with our future leaders. A good education sets the base for a better life. I believe that through our schools, we can have better community unity,” Dowd said. “Service to our community is important at all levels, and I feel a position on the school board will allow me to continue my service to our community.”
