The Choctaw County School District will hold its budget hearing on Wednesday, June 12 and its budget approval on Wednesday, June 19 both being held at 10 a.m. at Central Office. This budget will be for the fiscal year 2025 and will consider ad valorem tax. For the 2023-2024 school year, the school district is operating with a $25,740,574.30 and 32.10 percent of that or $8,263,555.40 was levied from ad valorem taxes. For the 2024-2025 school year, the district is proposing a budget of $24,489,449.07, which is $1,251,131.23 less than what the district is currently operating under this year. This budget will also propose to levy 33.83 percent in ad valorem taxes will comes to 8,284,189.52, which is $20,634.12 more than requested, which is under what a mill is valued at currently in the county. Currently, under this budget year, the county is finishing up two major projects – a new wing at Ackerman Elementary School and the long anticipated Charger Stadium. One of the newer projects on tap for the district is the new Opportunity Center.
