Mr. Willis Gerald “Bill” Starnes, 83, of Ackerman, MS, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Choctaw County Nursing Home in Ackerman, MS. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 6th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born on April 18, 9141, to Cay and Addie McBride Starnes. A longtime resident of Ackerman, he was a member of Chester Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the old family home place.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Childress Starnes; his sisters, Vera Lois Henderson, Mildred Ballard, Eunice Crittenden, Barbara Starnes, Bessie McMillian, and Mary Ann Hirose; and his brothers, Donald Paul Starnes, Harold Starnes, Larry McBride Starnes and Randy Starnes.
He is survived by three sisters, Mamie Ruth Dickerson of Ackerman, Saundra Wright of Fentress, and Opal Starnes Prewitt of Texas; a brother, Howard Starnes of New Orleans, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and many life long friends.
Pallbearers were David Starnes, Paul Starnes, Tyler Flake, and Taylor Flake.
Memorials in Bill’s memory may be made to French Camp Academy or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
