Patriots fall to Wayne Academy, looks to bounce back for Senior Night By Robbie Faulk Winston County Journal It was a secondstraight loss for the Winston Academy Patriots last Friday night but this one stung just a bit more than the week before. After giving away opportunities early in the game and losing in a loss against Central Hinds, the Patriots battled against the Wayne Academy Jaguars. WA went on the road to a historically difficult place to play and sent the game to double overtime. In the end, the Jags got an interception to seal the 42- 35 win. ìStatistically we outgained them by 125- 150 yards. They made one more play than we did,î coach Pat Byrd said. ìWe woke up and started playing late in the game to send it to overtime. We should have scored in double overtime but missed one block. The kids played really hard, we just made mistakes at critical times.î At 5-4 this year, WA has left some opportunities on the table but the big goals are still ahead. The team comes home for Senior Night tonight as theyíre set to take on St. Aloysius in the final regular season game. Itís a chance to finish 2-2 in the division and itís also a chance to improve the standings in the playoffs for a team searching to play at home next week. ìWe win Friday night we could be the four and get a bye,î Byrd said. ìThe good thing is that youíre in the playoffs but you want to end it the right way. Itís Senior Night and you want your kids to have great memories. St. Aloysius is not the same St. Aloysius that weíve been playing. Weíre going to have to play well to win.î
