(Oct. 19) Today as I patiently wait for the light of the new day to arrive, I am flooded with the light that guides me day by day — the light of God’s words and truths.
Recently we have had some power outages, a couple times in the middle of the night. It was one of these times that I learned exactly what it was like to not see anything. And I was taught to be so thankful for being able to see well.
Bill had gotten up and we neither had a flashlight near. He was calling me when I was awakened. I could see absolutely nothing — I started feeling my way, knocking over a lamp. I felt the smooth surface of the dresser and knew where I was, and knew then which way the door was.
He was wanting to get to the bathroom. Then I ran into him — a soft squishy object. I knew a flashlight was on the buffet. I felt the top of a glass cake plate and knew where I was. Next I felt the skillets hanging on the wall of the kitchen and knew I had gone too far so I backed up and was where the buffet was and there was the flashlight. What joy when I found it and turned the light on.
It was a good lesson for both of us — always have your light near — a practical lesson. Also a spiritual lesson. Oh what joy when I found the light — also the same with God’s light.
I hate darkness. I am constantly wanting our curtains open wide and the lights on in our living room, if there is a dark corner. But I also sympathize more with Bill, who has macular degeneration in both eyes. He was the curtains drawn because the light bothers him. So we have to “strive” to strike a happy medium around here.
Oh well, the lesson is keep your light shining — and a flashlight near at night in case the power goes out.
We had had a troubling two weeks, but all turned out well. Bill was in the hospital five days but is doing much better. This week doctor appointments at Columbus and Starkville, and because of wonderful friends I didn’t have to drive. They both turned out well, and I guess we are about back to normal, whatever that is.
And in the meantime on the 8th I turned 82 and on the 14th we had our 63rd anniversary. So it has been an eventful two weeks, with blessings untold. The Lord was truly shining his light on us.
Hope I haven’t bored you too much! Have a great week and may the light of God’s love shine on you always.
My Scripture today is 2 Samuel 2:29: “You, Lord, are my lamp: the Lord turns my darkness into light.”
