MSGT. John R. Peters, Sr., 94, of Macon, MS., passed away peacefully at his residence Wednesday, September 24, 2025. A funeral service was held Monday, September 29, 2025, at First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment was in Mashulaville Cemetery with full military honors. John R. Peters was born on October 23, 1930, in Macon, MS to the late Frank Roberts and Ina (nee Stewart) Peters. He was a graduate of Shuqualak High School after which he entered the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War, rising to a rating of E5. After his service, John bought and for twenty years operated the Peters Brothers Service Station. He then joined the Air National Guard, serving with the 186th Air National Guard out of Meridian MS. During his service he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, served with distinction and retired after sixteen years. John later served as the City of Macon Zoning Commissioner, retiring from this office after ten years of service. John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Macon. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and taking care of his place in the country. John is preceded in death by his parents, a son Michael Peters, siblings; Clyde Shearer, Freddie Peters, Hallie Moore, Frank Perry Peters, James R Peters, and Charles Peters.
John is survived by his son: Johnny Peters of Columbus, MS; two grandchildren, Leah Peters and David Randall; brother, and George Peters.
