Lurayne Mills of Weir, Mississippi, passed away at her home on November 21, 2025, at the age of 88. She was the daughter of William A. and Lula Mae Henderson Mills.
A native of Weir, Lurayne worked at the Ackerman shirt factory before relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, where she managed a savings and loan company and also served as a security guard as a side job. After returning home to Mississippi to care for her parents, she managed a grocery store near her home.
Her family remembers her as caring, witty, and musical. She loved tending her garden and canning food. A member of Providence Baptist Church, Lurayne passed away in the very room where she was born.
Lurayne is survived by four nieces, Kathy Askren (Ben), Patricia O’Conner, Laura Mattox (David), Sherry Mills Collingsworth (Ed); one nephew Ronnie Mills (Brenda); along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
The family would also like to give a special thank you to friends, family, Health Care clinic of Eupora, Dr. David Booth and Angela Reed, NP, Mississippi Home Health Care, North Mississippi Medical Hospital- Eupora, Choctaw Regional Medical Center- Ackerman along with Halcyon Hospice of Philadelphia, MS and Western Reserve Hospice of Cleveland, OH for her recent years of health care needs
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William D. Mills, one sister Glenda Faye Bullerdick and one nephew Dorrow Allen Mills.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Wise-Reed Funeral Home is overseeing all arrangements.
