Mr. Dee Dotson, as he was known throughout the community, was born February 23, 1921. He was the fifth of twelve children born to Essie and Ethel Dotson in the Millspring Community of Weir, Mississippi. After the death of his father, the family relocated to the Mt. Sinai community, Louisville, Mississippi in the early 1940s.
