Mrs. Lillian Wrenn Brumley Wilkins, 101, retired Administrator, died December 18, 2020 at her residence in Starkville, MS. Funeral Services were held 10:00AM Wednesday December 23, 2020 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN. Bro. Roger Miller, Brent Brumley and Steven Owen officiated.
Lillian was born in Algoma, MS on May 5, 1919 to Robert and Jimmie Johnson Brumley. Her family moved to Mathiston, MS. in the early 1920s. She graduated high school at Bennett Academy in the Spring of 1936. She began attending Wood Junior College but had to stop to assist the family by working.
After World War II, Lillian met Newton O. Wilkins in New Orleans, LA. They were married in his hometown of Memphis, TN on January 24, 1946. She began her career at the Mallory Army Air Force Depot and retired from the Army Depot as Administrator in 1975.
After retirement, they built a home in Mathiston, MS. on Spring Valley Road. She was active in the Mathiston United Methodist Church especially by baking cakes, pies and cookies for church sales. Mrs. Lillian also sewed, knitted, made crafts, gardened and was an avid reader.
Lillian and Newton were married 46 years when he passed away on September 26, 1992. Afterward, she moved to Starkville, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Marjorie Worthington and Louise Lofland and a brother; Bert Brumley. She is survived by her nieces; Cynthia (Albert) Watanabe, Jimmie LaVoie, Rita (Joe) Wilkins and two nephews; Brent (Theresa) Brumley and Steven Owen as well as several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Lillian will be remembered for her strength of character, her generosity and her loyalty to family, friends, church and community.
The family requests any memorials be made to the Mathiston United Methodist Church in Mathiston, MS.
