Darlene ‘Duces’ Latimore Lewis, of Jackson, MS, wife of the late Wilbur Lewis, of Louisville, MS, entered into eternal rest Friday, January 1, 2021 at her residence after a brief illness with COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Darlene Latimore was born September 28, 1928 in Philadelphia, MS (Stallo Community) to the late Ira and Earsel Beamon Latimore. After the death of her biological father, her mother married the late Johnny Moore of Philadelphia, MS (Stallo Community). She was the fifth of ten siblings, 9 girls and 1 boy; Willie Mae, Dolly Mae, Walterene, Ivy Lee, Mary Ruth, Eddie Mae, Helen Grace, Illa Mae and brother, Trude passed shortly after birth.

She attended Neshoba County Community Schools. Darlene relocated to Louisville, MS as a teenager to live with an older sister and resided there most of her life. She was also a resident of Milwaukee, WI for 10 years. In 1991, she relocated to Jackson, MS and remained there until her passing. Always a person who believed in providing for her family, she held several jobs, domestic, Classic Cleaners and Home Health Care (Milwaukee). She believed every able body should work to provide for themselves and their family.

Darlene joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church after relocating to Louisville, MS and later joined Greater Tree of Life M. B. Church of Jackson. Currently, she was a member of Royal Kingdom Church Ministries of Jackson, MS serving on the Mother’s Board.

In 1959, Darlene married Wilbur Lewis of Louisville, MS who predeceased her in 1973. She was previously married to Albert Miller. Darlene was the mother of five, Billy Gene, Alberta, Walter, Jacqueline (Jackie) and Michael.

To mourn her passing: two daughter, Alberta (Sam) Pruitt, Saginaw, MI, and Jacqueline (Willie) Bell, Jackson, MS; two sons, Walter Miller, Louisville, MS, and Michael (Lowanda) Lewis, Terre Haute, IN; 19 grandchildren, many great grands and great-great grands; 2 sister, Eddie Mae Liggins, Kansas City, MO, and Helen (Ester) Sledge, Kansas City, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins, a very special cousin/sister/daughter/friend, Evelyn ‘Honey’ Triplett and friends Mrs. Johnny Milles, Mrs. Barbara Jackson, Mrs. Mattie M. Haynes and her Jefferson Street family of Louisville, MS.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur Lewis; parents, Ira Latimore, Earsel Latimore Moore and one son, Billy Gene Austin (May 2020), 6 siblings, aunts, uncles, a great nephew she raised Derrick ‘Darryl’ Miller.

This is not the end of her story, although we are grieving, but not as people without hope, for the Scripture tells us that believers who die in the LORD, the rest of the story is yet to come.
