Mr. George Salley, 91, retired boilermaker, died December 23, 2020 at Diversicare of Eupora. Funeral Services were held 2:00PM Wednesday December 30, 2020 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in West Shady Grove Cemetery in Webster County, MS. Bro. John Herring officiated.
He retired after 30 years with Babcock & Wilcox Mfg. in West Point, MS and was a member of Eupora First Baptist Church and very proud to be a Mason. George and Sue ran "Aunt Sue's Day Care" for many years, where George's main function was to serve as the very jolly "Director of Recreations", a function in which he excelled.
At West Shady Grove Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and was head of the cemetery committee for many years. George loved flea markets and was a master "haggler". He drank a thermos of coffee every day and would drive hours to find a good catfish buffet. He had a huge garden every year and experimented grafting trees. He was always building, inventing and finding ways to creatively fix things. George was an excellent marksman, and many memories were of him hitting quarters thrown in the air and he loved teaching his nephews and grandchildren how to shoot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dewey and Eliza Salley, son; David Salley, sister; Katherine Caraccio, and two brothers; Glenwood and James Marion Salley. Mr. George is survived by his wife of 62 years Sue Jones Salley, Eupora, MS, two daughters; Suzanne Salley (Ray) Shankles, Albuquerque, NM and Devin Salley (Ashley) Moseley, Madison, MS, two sisters; Dorothy (David) Keith, Madison, MS and Sara Ingram, Hernando, MS, and five grandchildren; Landon Ray Shankles, Georgia Kate Shankles, Max David Shankles, Reese Henderson Moseley, and Salley Madeline Moseley.
