Ida Mae Black, 89, of McCool, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, at her residence after a brief illness surrounded by her family. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rob Faulk officiating. Visitation was the day of the service from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment immediately followed the service in Rural Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Black was born September 25, 1932, to Elbert Lee and Mary Elizabeth Ramage Teer in Attala County, Mississippi. She attended Glendale Grammar School and was a graduate of Ethel High School Class of 1951. Ida Mae grew up in the Pentecostal faith. She was the matriarch and loving mother of a large family. Her life was busy taking care of her family and hosting all the family gatherings.
Ida Mae is survived by her 10 children: Julia (Gary) Burchfield of McCool, Mississippi, Kathy (Dan) May of Stephens City, Virginia, Darlene Waltman of Hermitage, Tennessee, Martha (Billy) Pruett of Brandon, Mississippi, Betty Black also of Brandon, Lee (Cathy) Black of Heber City, Utah, Louise Black (Kevin) Coogan of Jackson, Mississippi, John Black of Palm Springs, California, Karl Black of McCool, and Karol (Laura) Black of Brandon, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and her only great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister Linda Williamson Miller. Ida Mae was preceded in death by Ivy Willard Black, her husband of 59 years, her parents, her brother Elbert Lamar Teer, her grandparents John and Ida Joanna Crosby Teer, and her aunt Rosie Ann Teer.
Serving as pallbearers were John Black, Karl Black, Karol Black, Lee Black, Andrew Black, and Nolan Burchfield. Memorials in honor of Ida Mae may be given to Rural Hill Cemetery Fund.
