Glenda Betterton Norwood, age 89, passed away on December 22, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, Mississippi. She was born on September 7, 1931 to B. C. “Doc” and Lillie Mae Hollis Betterton. She was married to the late G. C. Norwood.
Mrs. Norwood was a lifelong resident of Webster County. She married her late husband, G. C. Norwood, on September 6, 1949. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Anthony (Milinda) Norwood of Bellefontaine, Mississippi; two daughters, Sherryl Crowell of Walthall, Mississippi and Bonita (Jimmy) Philley of Grenada, Mississippi; one brother, Jesse (Ruby) Betterton of Columbus, Mississippi; eight grandchildren, Glendolyn Crowell, Rodney (Holley) Crowell, Letitia Crowell (Tim) Abbott, Krystal Crowell (Cliff) Ballard, Dana Philley (Andy) Hollingsworth, Tyler (Meredith) Philley, Scott (Lakyn) Norwood, and Josh (Hope Kirby) Norwood; fifteen great-grandchildren, Madison Crowell, Rylee Brooke Crowell, Marleigh Abbott, Cancey Abbott, Millie Ballard, Macon Ballard, Jacob Hollingsworth, Bas Hollingsworth, Luke Hollingsworth, Anna Scott Philley, Jackson Philley, Tucker Stroup, Sutton Norwood, Lawson Norwood, and Hallie Norwood; and two great great- grandchildren, Landry Rose Cummings and Maddie Hollingsworth.
She is preceded in death by her husband, G. C. Norwood; parents, B. C. “Doc” and Lillie Mae Hollis Betterton and one brother, Leon Betterton.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at 1 p.m. at North Union Cemetery in Bellefontaine, Mississippi. Brother Jimmy Vance officiated the service. Pallbearers were Rodney Crowell, Josh Norwood, Scott Norwood, Tyler Philley, Robert Pittman, and Sidney Langston. Wise Reed Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
