Annette Mhoon Spencer passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Bellefontaine, Ms on Dec 26, 2021. Annette, was born on January 27,1941 in Slate Springs, Mississippi. She was the oldest of eight children born to the late General Luther Mhoon, Jr. and Ruth Johnson Mhoon. Two brothers, Jessie and Ester Lee “Demus” Mhoon, and one sister Mattie Pearl Mhoon preceded her in death.
In 1960 she graduated from Webster County Training School and continued her education at Foster Beauty College in Ripley, MS. Her life has been devoted to education. She retired from the Webster County School District after over 30 years of service. Upon retirement she continued to lead by example through a show of faith, strength, and love for her family. This example was demonstrated through her 17 years of caring for her mother and sister.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10 by baptism on August 16, 1951, she joined Double Springs M.B. Church by letter. She was very active in the Mt Harmony District and the church. She also served as President of the Double Springs Women’s Missionary, Sunday school teacher, Secretary of the Union Grove Musical Convention, and other auxiliaries as needed. In 2017, she was presented the Certificate of Merit from the Mount Harmony Baptist District Association for all her contributions, hard work, and dedication.
Annette was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Herbert Marvelle Spencer on December 22, 1962. To their union was born two children: Dr. Althea (Curtis) Jordan, Colorado Springs, CO and Marvin Fitzgerald (Jennifer) Spencer, Murfreesboro, TN.
She leaves to cherish her memories five granddaughters: Meaghan (Lee) Smith, Ingesa Spencer, Madison Jordan, Iranessa Spencer, and Idris Spencer; two sisters: Mary Hunt, and Etta Williams; two brothers: Henry Mhoon, and Luther Mhoon Jr.; one aunt: Catherine Hill; two uncles: Russell Johnson and Isiah (Minnie) Mhoon; a niece she loved and cherished as a sister and daughter: Jennifer (Steve) Patterson; a nephew she loved and cherished as a brother and son: Autry Darnell (Valencia) Spencer. She also leaves a plethora of numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
Services were held on Thursday Dec 30,2021 at Double Springs, MB Church, Slates Springs, Ms. The Annette and Herbert Marvelle Spencer Education Scholarship has been established to honor their legacy.
