Darius Treyvon Kennedy
Funeral services for Darius Treyvon Kennedy, 18, were held at 2 p.m., April 16 at the Gospel Temple Transformation Center in Ackerman. Rev. Ethan Gillespie officiated. Burial followed in the Enon Cemetery.
Darius died March 27 in Choctaw County.
Survivors include his father, Elroy Kennedy; his mother, Lekita Robinson; one sister, Zhanae Kennedy; one brother, Ja”Kaylen Kennedy; and a host of aunts and uncles.

Ethel J. Shumaker Howard
Funeral services for Ethel J. Shumaker Howard, 66, were held at 1 p.m., April 14 at Beth-el MB Church in Starkville. Bishop Michael Boyd officiated. Burial followed in the Bethsalem Cemetery in Ackerman.
Mrs. Howard died April 6.
Survivors include one daughter, Anita Howard; one son, Clinton Howard; 2 brothers, Stillman Shumaker and CB Shumaker; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lenora Byrd
Funeral services for Lenora Byrd, 42, were held at 10 a.m., April 16 at the Taylor Funeral Home. Rev. Willie James Matthew officiated. Mrs. Byrd died on April 10, 2022.
Monch A. Jernigan
Funeral services for Monch A. Jernigan, 76, were held at 11 a.m., April 16 at Mt. Sinai M.B. Church. Dr. Benjamin Pittman officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Jernigan died April 7 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Jernigan; one daughter, Betty Hickman; three sons, Dennie Goss, Anthony Jernigan, and Russell Jernigan; his sisters, Armetta Haynes, Elizabeth Hernandez, Sarah Jernigan and Bonnie Barnes; 2 brothers, Robert C. Jernigan and Abraham Jernigan; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Duran Hickman
Funeral services for Duran Hickman, 39, were held at 2 p.m., April 16 at Mt. Bell MB Church. Dr. Anthony McIntosh officiated. Burial followed in the Oliver cemetery.
Mr. Hickman died April 10 in Galletin, TN.
Survivors include his mother, Glyndia Cistrunk; 2 sons, Jordan Hickman and Jarryn Nevels; 5 sisters, Lakisha Ryder, Christal Brown, Charnele Hickman, Chacko Brewer,a nd Mennicha Brewer; 7 brothers, Rodney Cistrunk, Kelvin Cistrunk, Reginald Cistrunk, Tod Hickman, Tracy Hickman, Michael Gambleton, and Tyler Sanders; his grandmother, Verbia Cistrunk; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Peggy Jane Baxter

Services for Peggy Jane Baxter, 82, of Ackerman were April 18, 2022, at Coleman Funeral Home with Maury Jones officiating.
She was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Oktibbeha County to the late Hallie and Annie Laura Hartness Jones. Mrs. Baxter was a retired nursing assistant and attended Concord Baptist Church. She died April 15, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Jenkins of Starkville; two sisters, Pat and Frances; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Mrs. Irta Elizabeth Peninger
Funeral services for Mrs. Irta Elizabeth Peninger was held Monday, April 11, 2022 at 2 p.m. from New Zion United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Randall Dunaway officiating. Burial followed in Henry’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, April 11, 2022 from noon until service time at New Zion United Pentecostal Church. McClain-Hays is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Peninger, 87, formerly of Ackerman, Ms, died Thursday, April 7, 2022.
She was a native of Fork Community of Neshoba County and a longtime resident of Ackerman, MS. Mrs. Peninger and her husband served the United Pentecostal Church Community for many years.
Survivors include three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, sisters, Inez Robertson of Philadelphia, Alice Linton of North Carolina; brother, Willard Benson of Philadelphia; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
