Ms. Martha Henderson Bowen, 87, a resident of Waynesboro, MS passed from this life Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Brookwood Villa in Waynesboro surrounded by family and friends. She was born on Tuesday, September 25, 1934, to Nealy Dewitt Henderson and Ethel Mae Henderson in Choctaw County near Ackerman, MS.
She fell in love and married Robert Earl Bowen from Eupora, MS when he returned from his military duties in the United States Navy during the Korean War. She worked at Wells-Lamont Corporation in Hugo, Oklahoma and Waynesboro, MS with 25 years of service. Working in the yard, playing golf and being a homemaker, especially cooking were her top priorities besides her family. She attended First United Methodist Church and loved God, family, and community.
Ms. Bowen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 Years, Robert E. Bowen; parents, Neal D. Henderson and Mae Peeples Henderson; two brothers, Albert Hugh Henderson and William Abner Henderson. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Heathcock (Terry); two sons, Tony Bowen (Melissa), Dale Bowen (Sheri), all of Waynesboro, MS; six grandchildren, Clint Heathcock (Karley), Colby Heathcock (Kelly), both Hattiesburg, MS, Penni Cooper (Devin), Brandon, MS, Betsy Hudson (Jeremy), Madison, MS, Jenci Baygents, (Gordon), Waynesboro, MS, and Lexi Taylor (Chase), Starkville, MS; 13 great grandchildren, Bowen Hudson, Bayley Hudson, Beau Cooper, Sadie Cooper, Rhett Cooper, Caroline Heathcock, Gracie Heathcock, Hayes Heathcock, Cannon Baygents, Clayton Baygents, Crew Baygents, Willow Taylor, and Wyatt Taylor.
Visitation for Ms. Bowen was held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 18, 2022, at Freeman Funeral Home, 1305 Skyland Drive, Waynesboro, MS. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, MS with Dr. Steven Bruns, Dr. DeJuan Walley, and Rev. Paul Harris officiating. Interment followed in Waynesboro Cemetery.
