Carol Jean Ward Triggs, 70, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones on April 11, 2022, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS, following an extended illness. Carol grew up in Louisville, MS, obtained a bachelor's degree in Education from Mississippi State University and then received a master's degree in Environmental Management from the University of Findlay in Ohio. She was a loyal Mississippi State sports fan, serving in leadership positions with various alumni associations. She never missed an opportunity to wear maroon and white while cheering for her Bulldogs.
Her professional career included work in the defense, aerospace, and environmental fields. She concluded her career as an employee of Aerojet Rocketdyne at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, Mississippi.
She enjoyed getting involved in her communities through volunteerism. Some of her many volunteer endeavors included providing counseling at a Women’s Crisis Center in Fort Worth, TX; butterfly wrangling at the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati, OH; and providing horticultural education as a certified Alabama Master Gardener in Huntsville, AL.
Carol was always up for an adventure, enjoying travels with friends and family. She embodied living life to the fullest and touched the lives of all she met. She was compassionate, generous, and effortlessly witty. Her infectious sense of humor was always on full display but never more so than when she was exuberantly enjoying an Elvis impersonator show.
The last six years following her devastating stroke were challenging for Carol. As the unstoppable force that she was, she dug in and worked harder at enjoying life and sharing that enjoyment with others. We were fortunate to have shared her life.
She is survived by her spouse of almost 27 years, David Louis Triggs of Ridgeland, MS, as well as one son, two daughters, a sister-in-love, 8 grandchildren, countless loved ones, and one very devoted collie.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Huntsville Animal Shelter in Huntsville, AL, or to Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) in Clinton, MS.
The family will be holding a memorial service at a future date to be determined.
