Barbara Sue Adkins Guess, age 68, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. She was the daughter of the late Alton and Jettie Wilson Adkins.
Barbara was a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother. She graduated from the Mississippi School for the Deaf. In spite of her deafness, she was very independent. She was an active mother for her son, Paul. Many of her family learned to communicate with her either by writing or by signing. Barbara enjoyed getting out and visiting with people. She still had many friends that she had met from school. She particularly enjoyed watching HGTV makeover shows and keeping up with the weather. She was a Baptist by faith and attended church whenever she was able. Otherwise, she would use her television to worship.
Survivors include her son, Paul Guess, Jr. of Cabot, Arkansas; her grandchildren, Logan Guess, Tyler Guess, and Madison Guess; and her sister, Eleanor (Jackie) Earnest of Slate Springs, Mississippi.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Jettie Wilson Adkins, her husband, Paul Guess, Sr.; five brothers, J. B. Adkins, Thomas Adkins, Ray Adkins, James Terrell Adkins, and Maxie H. Adkins; and six sisters, Geneva Williams, Mattie Leu Blaylock, Minnie Mae Carpentar, Elizabeth Brooks, Janell Adkins Warren, and Margaret Ann Adkins.
A graveside service for Barbara Sue Adkins Guess was Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation for Barbara Guess was from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Wise Reed Funeral Home. Brother Billy Trull presided over the service. Wise Reed Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
