Services for Allen M Brooks, 90, were Jan. 23, 2025, at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with burial at Blythe Creek Cemetery in Mathiston.
He was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Choctaw County to Lloyd Madison Brooks and Lydia Dobbs Brooks. Mr. Brooks retired from the B&W steel plant in West Point with 35 years of service. He also served in the Army in the 1950s and was stationed in Alaska. Mr. Brooks was a member of Blythe Creek Baptist Church and Mathiston Masonic Lodge #491. He died Jan. 20, 2025, at his residence in Mathiston.
Survivors include his Martha York Brooks of Mathiston; three children, Regina Brooks Snow of Mathiston, Teresa Brooks of Starkville and Allen Keith Brooks of Mathiston; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Thomas ‘Scott’ Carpenter

Services will be held on a later date for Thomas “Scott” Carpenter, 55 of Troy, Missouri.
Born Oct. 17, 1969, in Maben, he was the son of Linda Bennett and adopted by the late Thomas Lee and Betty Harper Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was a heavy equipment operator who most recently worked for Burkhalter and Buckner HeavyLift Cranes. He died Jan. 6, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Lincoln in Troy.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Fohey-Carpenter of Troy; one son and one daughter, Wyatt Carpenter of Asheville, North Carolina, and Megan Berry of West Point; one stepdaughter, Kylie Lee of St. Louis; his birth mother, Linda Bennett; one sister, Jennifer Bennett-Staten of Grenada; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Northeast Humane Society in care of Kemper-Keim Family Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 222, Troy, MO 63379-0222.

Vincent McDowell

Services for Vincent McDowell, 62, were Jan. 25, 2025, at Bibleway Progressive Church of God in Christ in Columbus with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery in Columbus.
He was born Sept. 14, 1962, in Columbus to the late Sam and Beulah McDowell. Mr. McDowell was a 1982 graduate of Caldwell High School and was formerly employed as a machine operator with Southwire in Starkville. He died Jan. 13, 2025, in Eupora.
Survivors include his children, Shamedrick White of Macon and Victoria Kimbrow of Nashville, Tennessee; his siblings, Penesha Kay McDowell, Sherry L. Humphries-Smith, Sam McDowell Jr. of Columbus and Verna Humphries of Columbus; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Cosell Bell, Danis Hollingshed, Tarvis Robinson, Keith Brown, Robert Turnerseed and Roderick McKey.
Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus was in charge of arrangements.
Andy Payne

Services for Meek Andrew "Andy" Payne Jr., 84, of Webster County were Jan. 25, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Burial followed at Moore's Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County.
He was born March 26, 1940, in Tippo to the late Meek Andrew Sr. and Ola Mae Harris Payne. He worked on the Webster County road and maintenance crew for years. Mr. Payne also served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of the Winona Church of God. He died Jan. 20, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Montgomery Payne; one daughter, Helen Ladner of Gore Springs; two sons, Chris Payne of Duck Hill and Gerald Payne of Scobey; one sister, Doris Ridenour of Dothan, Alabama; three brothers, Noble Payne of Dothan, Richard Payne of Picayune and J.L. Payne of Florida; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers were Andrew Montgomery, David Montgomery, Dwayne Montgomery, Patrick Montgomery, Scott Montgomery and Brad Rayburn.
