The Noxapater Board of Aldermen approved an animal ordinance at its monthly meeting held March 2 at the town hall.
The ordinance received a unanimous vote from the board.
The ordinance regulates the control of animals, the vaccination of animals, the impounding of animals, the possession of animals, and the pounding for violations and related issues.
The ordinance outlines that it is the duty of every owner of any animal or in his possession or custody to provide the animal with appropriate humane living conditions and adequate veterinary care. It is also their duty to exercise reasonable care and take all necessary steps and precautions to protect other people, property, and animals from injuries or damage.
“We’re trying to protect not only the residents but the animals as well,” said Noxapater Mayor Sammy Carter.
All persons who own animals within the town limits of Noxapater should do so according to the terms and conditions of the new ordinance.
The town of Noxapater has worked out an agreement with the city of Louisville to allow Noxapater to use the pound in Louisville and to assist in capturing animals when needed under the ordinance.
