By now we know who has won the tournaments and who is going where. I can only hope as this goes to press that our MSU women have knocked that ball out of the park...or shall I say have wrapped it all up! The ParaOlympics start this Friday...hope your interest is as high as it was for the other Olympics. Also hope all of you out there who have had various flues and other health incidents are recovering into this gorgeous weather that is springing all around us.
Last week I mentioned the notion of becoming a servant, one who puts others first. Sometimes when things aren't really going your way you become the recipient of that service of others. That is a gift in itself...especially if you can keep your sense of humor and allow complaining/murmuring to a minimum. Pain is a drag but can be overcome by the very helpfulness of others.
Sometimes, though, things take an unexpected turn. Here's another story from anthony de Mello, sj:
“According to the newspapers, a heat wave was causing fainting spells, so a young lady was not surprised to see the middle-aged man next to her in church slump down toward the floor. Quickly she knelt down beside him, placed a firm hand on his head, and pushed it down between his knees.
'Keep your head down,' she whispered urgently, ' you'll feel better if you get the blood into your head.'
The man's wife looked on convulsed with laughter and did nothing to help her husband or the young lady. She must be quite heartless, the young lady decided.
Then, to her dismay, the man managed to break loose from her muscular hold and hissed, 'what are you up to, you meddling fool? I'm trying to retrieve my hat from under the bench!' ”
Sometimes we get in the way so it is worth paying attention to the where’s and whens of our dedicated service. Enjoy. BLESSINGS.
