February is Heart Health Month and is dedicated to raising awareness heart disease which is the nation’s leading killer. To emphasize this point Winston Plywood & Veneer teamed up with Louisville Medical Clinic to host Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart.
According to Brooke Eaves, Louisville Medical Clinic Administrator, Winston County has the highest incidence of stroke in Mississippi, therefore it is very important to educate people on heart health, stroke and cardiovascular disease, and February is the perfect opportunity to educate the community.
Eaves added that there are many social determinants associated with cardiovascular disease including work environment, lifestyle, access to medical care and more. She stated that it is very important to have regular visits with the primary health provider and to be compliant with medications and follow-ups. Eaves said that even small changes in diet, exercise and other lifestyle components can make a difference in heart health.
Assisting Eaves were Vaughn Hill of Choctaw Regional Medical Center, Tracy Estes, Branson Eaves, and Allied Health students Morgan Trosper, Chloe Weeks, Lindsey Copeland and Alyssa Schroeder.
The students were handing out information to raise awareness of the Mississippi Stroke Challenge while Branson Eaves using the stroke risk calculator to help WPV team members have a better realization of their stroke risks. Hill said, “Small changes can be made in nutrition and lifestyle. Choices we make now can make a difference in your future. So we are here to encourage the employees of Winston Plywood.”
