Thousands of high school seniors interested in joining the workforce immediately after graduation will have the opportunity to visit with workforce specialists and even initiate the application process at their own high schools over the next few weeks.
Three Rivers Planning and Development District workforce specialists, who administer The Mississippi Partnership Local Workforce Development Area in 27 North Mississippi counties, including Webster, will visit 52 high schools in the area before graduation this May.
“About half of the graduating seniors elect to join the workforce following graduation,” said Three Rivers’ Recruitment and Application Specialist Rebecca Brantley, “and there are certainly jobs waiting to be filled in virtually every business sector. Some of these graduates have worked summer jobs and ‘know the ropes’ of making application, but others don’t. Our staff will be there to visit with them and assist them in beginning the application process, directing them toward the job they prefer or sending them to the local WIN Job Center or Mississippi Works website as best suits their needs.”
“We are partnering with the Mississippi Development Authority, Mississippi Department of Employment Security, local business and industry employers and others to create a bridge to jobs for seniors who choose to enter the workforce now.” Brantley said.
Among the highest-demand jobs are production workers in advanced manufacturing jobs, healthcare, information technology and logistics — warehousing, transportation and distribution.
