Kayaking is fast becoming one of the state’s largest outdoor sports opportunities, with kayak sales soaring the past several years. Kayaking is a family outdoor activity enjoyed throughout the year, not only during the summer months. Kayaking activities include, fishing, camping, paddling, wildlife viewing, photography, hunting, white water challenges, and much more.
Many of the listed activities are sanctioned Mississippi 4H programs. Although 4H is not limited to programs that are in the MSU 4H activities guide. Winston County has been given the go-ahead to introduce the state’s first, and only (so far) opportunity for youth between the ages 8 to 18 to start a county level 4H Kayaker’s Club.
This will be a really fun and educational opportunity for youth of Winston County to learn anything, and everything kayaking. The Club will meet once monthly, at a predesignated site to actually kayak at different destinations around Winston, and surrounding county’s lakes and rivers. As the club gets established, day trips throughout Mississippi will be planned by club’s adult volunteer leaders.
Does this sound interesting? What to sign up a youth? What to volunteer? Want your child to learn kayaking from experts? Want you child to learn something new? In 4H, we “Learn by Doing to Make the Best Better”.
Interested, call the Winston Extension Office for meeting place and time. Number to call is 662-773-3091.
