MSU Extension agent Jim McAdory launched Winston 100 and developed the curriculum for the wellness program with Extension health specialist David Buys. Wellness on wheels is a fun way to drop unwanted pounds, build fat burning muscle and make new friends. Winston 100 is a four week, bicycle riding class with fun, outdoor riding on a pre-determined road course encompassing a 10 mile route once weekly and 10 miles on your own schedule.
“Typically, if we can get people to do something for a few weeks or more weeks, they start a good habit and are more likely to keep doing it,” McAdory said. “We planned out different routes near the refuge that we rode each week to keep things interesting.”
The dozen riders last year weighed themselves and checked their blood pressure before and after completing the regimen, each one lost weight.
Sign up will be held at 5:30 p.m., July 30 at the Extension office. There will also blood pressure checks. Rides are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., August 5.
Youth are invited to attend as long as a parent is present and helmets are required.
The Winston County Extension office is located at 155 Vance Street in Louisville. For more information contact Jim McAdory or Tracey Gregory at 773-3091.
