The family of Alva Wofford and Josie Wright Williams had planned on a family reunion to be held at W.O. Shivers Park next to the library in Maben at 10 a.m. June 15.
But, what to do in case of any difficulties in getting the park? This is exactly what did happen, as early that Saturday morning another large group of people had moved into the park for another event.
But, if you know any of the Williams family, you would know this did not put a stop to this reunion.
Ruth Carol Williams Hubbard and her husband, Chris, along with help from other family members, had tables, chairs and food tables set up on the lot across the street from the park in no time.
A.W. Williams, whose family this was, had been a resident of Maben for years. He had a feed and fertilizer business next to Mrs. Ottis Williams’ Grocery for years.
Mr. Williams’ three sons, daughter, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren came. They had chairs and tables lined up on the lot, barbecue and many other kinds of foods.
A few of us there are not related to any of the Williams family, but they made us feel welcome. We felt they kind of adopted us for the day.
