SEPTEMBER 5, 1918
Webster County A. H. S. will open Sept. 10th. The dormitories have been thoroughly renovated and put in order for the pupils. The floors in the school building have been oiled, the desks repaired, and the basement put in fine shape for the manual training and agricultural laboratory. The boarding department, under the management of Mrs. Treloar, is prepared to make the life of the pupils so home-like that they cannot possibly get homesick.
TOMNOLEN: Mr. W. B. Boatman made a trip to West Point, Miss. Saturday where he enlisted with the Merchants Marine. He expects to go sometime next week. - Misses Creole Brown, Arline Mitchell, and Homer Woods left Monday for Bennett Academy. - Messrs. J. P. Coleman and W. A. Woods made a business trip to Walthall Monday.
Hon J. F. (Frank) Pinson died at his home in Ackerman last Sunday morning. He was sick only a short time and friends and many relatives did not know of his serious illness until his death. He was the son of the late Hon. Washington Pinson and his wife, Mrs. Belle Holloway Pinson, each of whom were members of very distinguished families in this section of Mississippi. He is survived by his mother, a wife, and four children, two brothers, five sisters, and a number of other relatives.
EUPORA: The Café which was owned by Mr. T. W. McDaniel and also the Bakery which was owned by Mr. J. A. McGraw was bought out by Mr. W. L. Tenhet. Mr. Tenhet wants the people to come and see him, for he is now ready to give them first-class service. - Lieuts. Auvergne and U. S. Williams stopped over for a few days furlough with homefolks while they were being transferred to Camp.

WALTHALL: Mr. John Hood of Okla. spent several days of last week with his cousin, W. O. Hood. - Married in Walthall recently, Mr. Oli Golden and Miss Burk Judge, B. F. Haney performing the ceremony. - News has reached here of the death of Corp. Wilbur Crowder, who was killed in action in France. Wilbur was a native of Webster and a nephew of the writer.
TOMNOLEN: Everett Trussell left Saturday for Bennett Academy. - Mrs. Chas. Forbes of Choctaw spent Sunday with Mrs. J. F. Lamb
EUPORA: Mrs. Jack Johnson and children returned home Tuesday after spending the summer with her father in Corinth. - Mr. Dewitt Wright came home on furlough Tuesday. He has been in training at Newport, R. I. for several months. - Mr. and Mrs. John Patterson received a cablegram that their son Fred was killed in France July 19th.
Miss Gatha Teat, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Teat, and Mr. Herbert Williams, son of Mr. Mack Williams, were married at Walthall last Sunday.
Pvt. Hobson Moore, who has been home on about a 20-day furlough, returned to Camp Wednesday.
