The Winston Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility (WCCRCF) recently received federal certification after a review of standards to meet the requirements of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
According to the facility's Warden, Neal Higgason, the facility passed the audit with 100 percent of meeting all standards and the auditor could not find any issues or improvements needed.
The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was passed in 2003 to provide an analysis of the effects of prison rape at the federal, state and local level. PREA provides information and resources to protect inmates from being sexually assaulted while incarcerated. The audit is conducted every three years.
"I want to give credit to our staff here for the quality of their work and congratulate Sheriff Jason Pugh on another successful audit,” said warden Higgason.
WCCRF was opened in March of 1999 and houses state, county and city inmates.
