United Way of NCM’s annual food drive to restock area food pantries and feed hungry families across the four-county area is underway.
Sponsored by the United Way of North Central Mississippi in partnership with the Kiwanis Club, Starkville Community Church and Barnes & Noble, the “United We Feed” initiative launched Monday and continues through Nov. 16. The “United We Feed” effort stocks food pantries operating in Oktibbeha, Choctaw, Webster and Winston counties, all of which are served by the United Way.
During the three-week food drive, volunteers will be collecting canned vegetables/fruits, uncooked packages of pasta, dry beans, boxed macaroni and cheese, rice, iced tea bags, canned meats (chicken, tuna, ham), canned stews/soups/chili, dry soup mixes, coffee, non-perishable food items/packaged dinners and plastic containers of peanut butter, jelly, cereal and children’s box drinks.
The United Way’s signature red collection bins have been placed at these locations in Webster County — Eupora: Piggly Wiggly and SuperValu, Mathiston: Piggly Wiggly and Walthall: Dollar General.
In addition to the drop-off locations, special “United We Feed” collection days will occur in all four counties on the weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Locations include Piggly Wiggly in Mathiston and Eupora, and SuperValu in Eupora. Volunteers will be stationed at all stores to receive donated food.
“United We Feed” is a community initiative held during the United Way of NCM’s 2019 campaign. United Way’s mission is to ensure every member of the community is full, fit and literate. Strong neighbors make a strong community.
