Well, the Maben Public Library’s Summer Reading Program kicked off June 12 with Uncle Bubba.
Uncle Bubba, aka Andy Childress, is a puppeteer and cartoonist from Louisville. He started us off with a little handclapping music, “We will Rock You!”
The theme this year is “Libraries Rock!” Our goal is to get the children in the library so they will be enticed to read during the summer months.
Uncle Bubba had the children name animals and then he would draw the head of that animal, then the body of a different animal, legs of a different animal and a tail of a different animal.
An example is head: goat, body: fish, legs: giraffe and tail: poodle. Another was a monkey: head, lizard: body, spider: legs and pig: tail. These animals were kind of messed up and he named them all George! We had a good group.
Prizes for Reading the Most Books age 4-7 went to Khloei Earley and age 8-12 we had a tie between Jacob Woodard and Jada Pate. We also drew a prize from registration and age 4-7 was Lexie Fulgham and age 8-12 was Lauryn Roby. All children received a prize and the ones who brought their book log received two prizes.
This week’s program was to feature Lynn McCafferty from Families First as Mrs. Wishy Washy. Come join us next Tuesday at 10 a.m. for Terry Vandeventer — the “Snake Man.” Don’t forget your book log and to READ, READ, READ!
