On Saturday, December 14, 2019 at approximately 8:40 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal traffic crash on I-55 in Madison County. A 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Kegela V. Landfair, 27, of Pickens, MS was traveling northbound on I-55. The driver of the Nissan Altima stated vehicle was traveling at a low rate of speed due to low air pressure in tire.
A 2018 Freightliner tractor- trailer driven by Joe Turnage, 48, of Olive Branch, MS was also traveling northbound on I-55. The Freightliner tractor-trailer collided with the rear of the Nissan Altima causing the Nissan to leave the roadway and collide with guard rail. Passengers in the Nissan Altima, Kambreonna Brown, 8, Jayden Pepper, 6, and Anoni Johnson, 1, were all pronounced dead on scene. Kegala Landfair along with passengers Angela Pepper, 59, and Aneatra Johnson, 6 months old, were transported to UMMC due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Freightliner tractor-trailer was not injured.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
