A community Thanksgiving Luncheon is held each year on Thanksgiving Day at South Louisville Baptist Church Family Life Center with the whole community coming together to volunteer and help those in need.
This directly from Aline Haynes, the organizer of the annual event:
“On Thanksgiving morning, South Louisville Life Center was a great place to be. I arrived at 7:35 A.M. Many volunteers were there waiting for the doors to open. I knew in my heart that God was going to bless our services and He did. The 8 a.m. shift word great getting things set up for the 10 a.m. shift. Opening statement were given by myself followed by prayer for youth and children given by Rev. Richard Lynons. Evangelist Essie Glass prayed for the entire group. Also, on site was Evangelist Carnette Hudson and Rachel Lyon.
The assembly line began around 10:40 a.m. which assembled over 1,100 meals. Over 200 volunteers came out to help with the event. Schools represented were ECCC, Noxapater High, LHS, MSU, Hinds CC, Ole Miss, Providence Christian Academy, Lilburn, GA, GCS, Nanih Waiya, and Noxapater Attendance Center, Texas Women University, Alcorn State, the Mayor's Youth Council, Eiland Middle School- Beta, LHS Beta, GCS Beta, and the Buffalo Soldiers.
I would like to thank all of the volunteers for a job well done. I'm very grateful to God for another successful year. Special thanks to all who donated cakes and to all behind the scenes work crew. Also, thanks to the turkey federation for donation, the turkey, Darlene Bane, Pastor Hubert Yates- name tags, Rhonda Shotts- copies, Vowell Market and Walmart, Banners, Teresa and Swain Printing, Winston County Journal, and Switch and Swap for announcements. Thanks to all businesses, churches and individuals who gave donations. Without your help it wouldn't be possible. Special thanks to a great cooking crew. Thanks to Grace Christian School, First Methodist and South Louisville for the use of their facilities. The services you offered were helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks to set up and cleanup crews. To all who played an important role just know that you were appreciated. I'm honored to extend much gratitude to the people of Winston County for all you've done.
The 18 years that you have helped make the luncheon a success. Many were blessed to a good hot meal because of the love that you have shown. Thanks to my family for standing by my side. Let us please pray for one another and extend a helping hand throughout the holiday season. I love you all and may God continue to bless each of you.
