East Webster High School was recently awarded a $5,500 grant from the Mississippi Tennis Association (a part of United States Tennis Association) to resurface its tennis courts. The Webster County School Board voted to fund the remainder of the project.
MTA and USTA granted the award because of the school making the courts available to the adults and youth in the Webster County area for recreation and league play. Over 70 children participated in USTA summer programs in Webster County this year.
The work was completed by Hi-Tech Athletic Surfaces of Prairie. Hi-Tech has resurfaced courts for Columbus High School, Jones Community College, Hinds CC and Joyner Park in Tupelo.
After pressure washing, sanding, filling cracks and sealing the courts, the company painted the courts in the school colors of maroon and gray.
Because of the amount of rain this summer it took much longer than expected, but everyone is pleased by the finished product.
